Rhodactis indosinensis (Hairy Mushrooms) were first described by Swedish zoologist, Oskar Carlgren in 1943. Given the ease of care, variety of available colors, and the overall coolness factor - the Hairy Mushroom is a great choice for new and veteran Reef Chasers alike. Rhodactis Mushrooms are covered with numerous hair-like tentacles, giving it a "hairy" appearance. Rhodactis Mushrooms are found in a variety of colors to include green, brown, tan, pink, and purple. The tentacles colors usually contrast with the body. Rhodactis mushrooms can grow up to 4 - 8 inches. They reproduce asexually by means of fission. They can also reproduce by way of laceration.
Mushrooms, in general, are pretty hardy. Low to moderate water flow is preferred - they do not like heavy water movement. They can acclimate to low to moderate light. We recommend around 100 PAR. If your Rhodactis Mushroom does not get sufficient lighting and/or water movement, it will just detach and float around the tank until it finds a more suitable home. When introducing a new mushroom to your reef, please take into consideration that all mushrooms are semi-aggressive. They don't usually start trouble but, like many mushrooms, they need their space to grow, thrive, and colonize. They don't usually start trouble but, like many mushrooms, need their space. Rhodactis indosinensis do, however, often play nice with their own species.
A member of the Corallimorpharia Order, Ricordea Mushrooms are distinct in appearance and are an excellent choice for the Reef Chaser looking for a pop of color. Their roundish bodies are covered in small, bulbous tentacles and they usually grow to be about 2 to 3" in diameter. Ricordea mushrooms are found in a variety of color combinations in blues, greens, oranges, pinks, purples, reds, yellows, tans, etc. In my humble opinion, they're certified showstoppers
