HOT OFF THE PRESS! This innovative new solution for fragging soft corals will make it trivial to propagate difficult species. We all know that Sinularia, Kenya Trees, Colt, Capnella, Xenia, Anthelia, Cabbage, Mushrooms and certain other soft corals are notoriously difficult to get to stay put with traditional glue and plug methods. This innovative new solution changes that! Simply set a small piece of a soft coral in the hole of the plate, and use a removable, re-usable Luer-Lock needle to permanently fix it. The Coral will then grow onto the plug over the next 2-4 weeks, at which time you simply remove the needle and your frag is ready to go!
Cradle Sizes are now available in 3 options. Although all sizes will work with most soft corals, certain sizes work better with certain species. For example, for small stalks of Kenya, Colt & Sinularia, the 8mm Cradle is preferred as it makes it easy to get the needle pierced through a small, deflated stalk without having to worry to much about centering it up or it slipping and sliding. However, the 8mm Cradle is too small and makes it more difficult to cut pieces of Toadstool, Umbrella, etc. as you have a lot less room to work with and it's harder to get a nice chunk for the needle to grab. The 10mm or even 12mm Cradle Sizes will be preferred for these types of corals. We recommend keeping a variety of Cradle Sizes on hand to meet any needs you may have. If you can only get one size, the 10mm size is the best option as it offers the most coverage across species.
Needles are re-usable and do not rust. For re-sterilization we recommend to soak in iodine after rinse. Each Pack of 1" Polyp Lock™ Pin Plug INCLUDES the detachable Lock Plug Stem, and 1" Polyp Cradle.
Available for purchase with or without the 22 Gauge 5/8" Needles. Availability of needles may vary so we recommend you to source your own for volume purchasing. Also compatible with tooth picks although the success rate will be lower due to the size of the toothpick damaging the coral more. Tooth Picks will also require bigger cuts of the coral so the needle is the superior choice.
If Sourcing Needles Separately We recommend these needles or ones similar.
