*EXPERT CARE LIVESTOCK* Harlequin Shrimp must be given a diet of meaty starfish treats, in the wild it is the only food they consume. Many aquarists employ the Harlequin Shrimp to control explosive starfish populations (such as asterina). If you cannot provide the harlequin shrimp with the diet it needs then you will encounter difficulties with this shrimp which is why it is listed as expert care. Invertebrates can be more sensitive to parameter changes than fish or coral. High nitrate levels or sudden changes in pH or Salinity can be very harmful to inverts and may cause death. It is recommended to do a slow acclimation process when adding new inverts to your aquarium. |
