Bumblebee Snails (Engina mendicaria) are small, striking marine snails known for their unique, bold appearance. Their shells are typically a mix of black, yellow, and white, resembling the coloration of a bumblebee, hence the name. These snails are found in shallow, rocky reef environments across the Indo-Pacific region. The shells are usually conical, with a smooth, glossy surface, and they have a relatively small size, typically growing to about 1 to 2 inches (2.5 to 5 cm) in length. They are known to be hunters of Vermetid Snails which is why many aquarist purchase these important clean up crew members.

Bumblebee Snails are scavengers, feeding on detritus, algae, and decaying organic matter in the sand or on rocks. They play an important role in maintaining the health of their habitat by helping to clean up the environment. These snails are generally slow-moving and non-aggressive, often found slowly crawling along the substrate or hiding under rocks. While they are popular in marine aquariums for their distinct look, they can sometimes be mistaken for a type of cone snail. However, unlike the venomous cone snails, Bumblebee Snails are harmless to humans.

Invertebrates can be more sensitive to parameter changes than fish or coral.  High nitrate levels or sudden changes in pH or Salinity can be very harmful to inverts and may cause death.  It is recommended to do a slow acclimation process when adding new inverts to your aquarium.
