The Bristletail Filefish, also known as the Aiptasia Eating and the Tomentosus Filefish, has an elongated, laterally compressed body shape. It features a small mouth and a single, elongated dorsal fin. The body coloration can vary depending on the individual and its surroundings, but it typically includes shades of white, yellow, and brown, with intricate patterns and markings.

This filefish species has a relatively peaceful temperament and can generally be kept in a community aquarium. However, it may exhibit some territorial behavior towards other filefish or similar species, so it's important to provide ample hiding spots and space within the tank. The Bristletail Filefish is not typically aggressive towards other tank mates.

The Bristletail Filefish is primarily herbivorous. In the wild, it feeds on various types of algae, including filamentous and macroalgae. In an aquarium setting, it's important to offer a well-balanced diet that includes a variety meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, spriulina infused brine shrimp, and other meaty foods as well as marine algae, such as dried seaweed or live macroalgae. Supplementing their diet with high-quality pellet or flake foods designed for herbivorous fish can also be beneficial.
