Acanthurus achilles

The Achilles Tang is also known as the Red-Tailed Surgeon. It's coloration is striking and beautiful, making this a coveted acquisition. It has bright colorations of orange around the dorsal, caudal and anal fins. White markings are present on the gill and a striking orange teardrop is found near the caudal fin giving this fish it's signature mark. 

The Achilles Tang is found in very strong surge zones so they require high flow and ample swimming space. The Achilles Tang is very aggressive towards other tangs and Surgeonfish but is peaceful with different species.

Use caution when housing with other Tangs or Surgeonfish. Similar shaped Tangs can be very aggressive towards each other. Although Tangs will eat meaty foods along with the other fish in the aquarium, it is important that they are offered plenty of marine based seaweed and algae.

It is well known that tangs have a penchant for Marine Ich and other diseases due to their lack of slime coating. We highly encourage quarantining all fish, but especially Surgeon Fish. We do our best to quarantine all fish at Reef Chasers but there can be absolutely no guarantees.
