Pseudanthias ignitus

Anthias fish are hermaphroditic meaning they will change sex from Female to Male. When keeping a harem of Anthias, the largest most dominant female will turn into a male. If the male perishes, another female will take his place.  It is recommended to only keep one of these fish in smaller aquariums of 70 gallons or less. If housing a harem in a larger aquarium of 125+ gallons it is recommended to keep a single male and around 6-8 females.

These fish like to school and tend to swim and stay active. Because of their general activity and high metabolism Anthias fish tend to do best when given multiple, smaller feedings per day. Aside from aggressions towards their own species they are a great community fish, even if listed as "Semi-Aggressive". Your anthias will benefit greatly from available hiding places under live rock ledges or in caves. Most anthias prefer dimmer lighting, but will acclimate to the brighter lighting that is commonly found in reef tanks.

Anthias will depend on a healthy variety of vitamin enhanced meaty foods such as Mysis Shrimp, Brine Shrimp and other frozen foods. Over time, Lyretail Anthias may acclimate to high-quality flake foods.
