Sympodium Sp

Sympodium is a hardy species of encrusting soft coral that are known to propagate with relative ease in adequate conditions. A member of the Xeniidae family, these corals share similarities to Xenia, but do not pulse like Xenia. Having the appearance of  flowers, eight jade pinnules emerge from each deep, blue polyp.

Typically, Sympodium will be open during the day and then tentacles will retract at night. Through their symbiotic relationship with a photosynthetic algae, known as zooxanthellae, they receive many of their nutrients. They also absorb some of the nutrients in the water column.
